This
was a group trip, with the group meeting in Vancouver, Washington, and
taking a chartered bus to the Mount Hood Railroad station in Hood
River, Oregon. The train took us to Parkdale, where we had time
for lunch, photos, and a visit to the museum. Then we returned to
Hood River by train and to Vancouver by bus. In photo 2005-05-06-33, we are returning to Hood River with the engine (blue and red with yellow stripe in the middle) pulling us. The red car includes ladders you can climb to get up to the high windows. The green car has seats which flip over. So, when you start the journey facing forward and the train changes direction at the switchback, you just flip the seat over to be able to continue riding facing forward. Photo 2005-05-06-40-C was taken after the switchback on the return journey. The train left Parkdale with the engine in front pulling the train, but after the switchback, the train was traveling backwards, with the engine pushing from the back. This meant that the open-air car (shown in photo 2005-05-06-21 in Parkdale at the rear of the train) became the front of the train. |
